Foundation Focus

The Kates Foundation’s goal is to make a difference within  the counties of Sarasota and Manatee by enhancing the quality of life to those who may otherwise have fewer opportunities.  

The foundation’s function will be to provide moneys to organizations and agencies that are not -for -profit. Primary areas of interest will be in education, literacy, women's issues, children’s programing and social services that provide proactive programming.

Any discussion or indication of interest prior to or after submission of a written application or onsite visit should not be construed as a commitment from the foundation.  Applicants will be notified in writing of the acceptance or rejection of their request.

Generally it is the policy of the foundation NOT to fund grants for:

1. endowments, deficit financing, debt reduction, or ordinary operating expenses.
2. for conferences, seminars, workshops, travel, surveys, fund raising costs, or personal research.
3. annual campaign giving
4. individuals (not at all)
5. multi-year grants
6. completed projects
7. programs and agencies out of the counties of Sarasota and Manatee
8. religious institutions
